Last time, Bryan does not like to go home with me at the end of the day. I blogged about it in my personal blog before.
But since I came back from Phuket, it is no longer a challenge to get him to come home with me.
In fact, the moment he notice that i am leaving, he will quickly crawl towards the main door and try to open the door himself. He will also gladly and LOUDLY say “BYYYYEEEEEIIII” to everyone in the house while waving happily.
I think he got scared that I will abandon him again. Poor baby.
I have been starting to introduce Bryan to “whole” foods. Maybe i am using the wrong term here, but i am referring to food that are not mashed up and mixed alltogether in porridge or pasta.
Today I cooked soup using pumpkin, carrot, brocolli and cauliflower with pork. I took out the vege when they are done and roughly cut into pieces. In a separate pot, i cook vegeroni pasta, strain and then add some of the soup to the pasta.
Cooked for a little while to let the pasta absorb the soup’s taste and to soften it further. Lastly, i put in half a slice of cheddar cheese. Results – Cheesy pasta with vegetables
When i feed Bryan, i try to feed different food separately so that he can enjoy the different textures.
There were extra soup left, so I serve that to him in between bites.
He loved the soup, and he tried to say “soup” , but all that came out was “ssssss….”
I went to my friend’s wedding dinner alone and left Bryan under the care of his daddy. I was a bit worried at first coz Bryan had not had a daddy only night since he was 3 months old. If I have to go for any evening appointments without Bryan, i will usually leave him with my mom or try to get home by his bedtime.
But since he is already 14 months old. It’s time to give it a try.
I got home at 11pm and found that – Bryan has been fed his dinner, bathed and was in bed by 930pm.
I am so proud of my hubby. Yeah, this means I can start having my girls only night out again!
Today, i finally got Bryan to drink formula.
My ex-classmate got married today, and I took Bryan to her morning wedding party – you know when the groom comes to pick up the bride party.
I decided to take Bryan along as her house is very near to mine. Less than 5 mins drive away.
We went home at about 12 noon when Bryan started to get tired & cranky. I want to feed him his lunch and then get him to sleep.
Hubby did not come along and he is suppose to prepare Bryan’s porridge. It is his first time cooking for Bryan, and so, when i got home, the porridge is not ready yet. So since no porridge to eat, have to give Bryan some milk.
So i use made some formula milk. I told him “nen-nen. Nen-nen like the ones poh-poh give you -Â bear bear nen-nen.”

Then i showed Bryan the formula sample’s paper cover and gave it to him for him to play.
He likes anything with teddy bears, so my mom always let him play with the cover when she opens one sample. Thus, Bryan has associated the cover with nen-nen as well.
Hubby was sceptical that Bryan will drink the formula from me. But to my surprise, Bryan gladly accepted the bottle. And drank 4 Oz of the bottle while flipping through the formula’s cover.
I fed him porridge about an hour later, and then tucked him for his nap, without any breastfeeding.
I have mixed feelings seeing & feeding him formula. I am glad that he is accepting formula but also beginning to miss our breastfeeding moments.

See this chair..nice or not ?
Actually this is a baby’s potty. A gift from my SIL, hubby’s sis.

Each of the parts can be disassembled for washing. Ingenious right. We can have the potty right in the middle of the living room and not be an eye-sore.
But the problem is – getting Bryan to sit still while doing his business is extremely challenging. So very often, Bryan will struggle until the potty will fall into pieces.
So we gave up getting Bryan to sit there to do his business.
Actually, at our house, Bryan doesn’t like to sit while doing his business. My mom is about the only person who can get Bryan to poo in the potty .
At our house, he prefers to stand. And his favourite spot is
The TV cabinet.
Very often, after he has played around the TV cabinet, he will poo-poo into his diaper.
The other day, Bryan was sitting on hubby’s lap on the couch watching TV while I was preparing the bath water. Then hubby felt & heard Bryan fart. Since Bryan is about to take his bath & have his diaper changed anyway, he said “Want to ng-ng hor. Ng-ng la,†and started to massage his tummy.
Bryan shook his head, and wriggle his way down the couch. He then crawl towards the TV cabinet and started playing with the door & the TV buttons.
5 mins later when we checked on him, he has poo-poo in his diaper…In front of the TV cabinet.
Bryan really has some bad temper.
If he wants something but we refuse to give to him, he will:-
- Scream, no, shriek loudly.
- Wave his hands madly (as if hitting the air) and kick his legs about.
- Throw himself back => This one very dangerous as he could knock his head on the wall
If we give in to him and gives him what he wants, he will take the item and throw it away.
Last weekend, hubby was dressing him after his bath. He crawled away to the living room before hubby put on his pants. So hubby shouted from Bryan’s bedroom, “Bryan, come back and put on your pants.â€
Bryan crawled back into the room, took his pants into his little hands, crumpled the pants and threw it away.
See la, you say this boy bad temper or not.
Today is the first day I did not expressing in the office. It wasn’t too bad as I have been expressing only twice a day last week during my trip to Phuket.
I am getting tired of expressing milk, and carrying an additional bag to store & transport milk from work each day. Besides, Bryan does not like to drink EBM from the bottle anyway.
So once Bryan finishes my EBM inventory by Friday, he will start to get formula during the day when i am at work, that is beginning Monday. Unfortunately he totally rejects frozen EBM now, …so all inventory I have on that is going down the drain *cry*
I will still direct breastfeed morning & night. I don’t know yet what i will do during the day on weekends. Bryan will probably definitely demand direct bf, but if there are not enough bm, I will try to give formula. I am sure he will reject it, but he is old enough to understand simple explanations now. So if he is really hungry, he will accept the formula (i think). Otherwise, he is still getting his regular solid meals, so he definitely won’t starve.
Besides, I am pretty sure that he will get min 8 Oz during the morning & night feedings, based on the volume that I am able to express if I do not direct feed. And usually during direct bfg, there will be more milk than expression, so it could be more than 16Oz per day for him.
I found this from KellyMom breastfeeding website
Several studies have measured breastmilk intake for babies between 12 and 24 months and found typical amounts to be 14-19 oz per day (400-550 mL per day).
So I am not scared of him not getting enuf milk.
It’s gonna be tough, but I think it is time to start.
