First formula feeding
January 27th, 2007 by Shooi
Today, i finally got Bryan to drink formula.
My ex-classmate got married today, and I took Bryan to her morning wedding party - you know when the groom comes to pick up the bride party.
I decided to take Bryan along as her house is very near to mine. Less than 5 mins drive away.
We went home at about 12 noon when Bryan started to get tired & cranky. I want to feed him his lunch and then get him to sleep.
Hubby did not come along and he is suppose to prepare Bryan’s porridge. It is his first time cooking for Bryan, and so, when i got home, the porridge is not ready yet. So since no porridge to eat, have to give Bryan some milk.
So i use made some formula milk. I told him “nen-nen. Nen-nen like the ones poh-poh give you -Â bear bear nen-nen.”

Then i showed Bryan the formula sample’s paper cover and gave it to him for him to play.
He likes anything with teddy bears, so my mom always let him play with the cover when she opens one sample. Thus, Bryan has associated the cover with nen-nen as well.
Hubby was sceptical that Bryan will drink the formula from me. But to my surprise, Bryan gladly accepted the bottle. And drank 4 Oz of the bottle while flipping through the formula’s cover.
I fed him porridge about an hour later, and then tucked him for his nap, without any breastfeeding.
I have mixed feelings seeing & feeding him formula. I am glad that he is accepting formula but also beginning to miss our breastfeeding moments.

i too had mix feeling like you when i first started formula on vyktore
I was oh-so-glad when Ashley took to formula in her 12th month. Been trying it out with her without avail since she was 4 months old and was so relieved when she finally accepted it. It gave me a sense of security, you know, like if i werent around and if there isnt ebm available, there would be another option. She still isnt on formula much, but when MIL goes out nowadays, she doesnt bother with frozen ebm anymore, she just take a sachet along. (we dont have any at home except those freebies from pediatricians).
Yup, it is a relieve when they start to accept formula. I have not opened any tin of formula yet. Still using the freebies from the PD too.
But since Bryan is only on 50% (or less) fm, i probably will not open my own tin. Just scoop some from my mom’s place and keep in an airtight container.Â
I also started with all the samples but most of the time they ended in the sink… the most he will only gulp down 1/2… less than 50ml.
