This few days, Bryan is getting more confident at walking independently – without our support.
It gets pretty frightening for us to see him toddling around, afraid that he may fall and knock against the furniture – but we have to learn to let go, or he will not learn.
The cutest or scariest acts that he pulls, is he will walk towards us, then suddenly do a 180 deg turn and toddles the other way. Or after he turns, he will walk a few steps, before making a sharp turn to another direction.
The first few times he did that, i could literally felt my heart sink. Even my aunt said that.
Now, we are getting quite used to his little stunts. It’s gonna take more effort to watch over him going forward.
2 evenings ago, sis’s bf (CY) brought a box of Ipoh Salted Chicken for my mom.Sis, hubb and I were having dinner and Bryan was watching tv with my mom in the living room when he came.
The moment CY walked in, Bryan eyed the plastic bag containing the box of salted chicken.
When CY placed the box of chicken on the dining table, Bryan looked at him sweetly and said, “mum-mum.”
Sis laughed at Bryan and said that he is such a realist.
Then Bryan walked to the dining table and said loudly, “MUM-MUM” insisting that we feed him the items in the box.
How did he figured out that it is food? The chicken was cold by then and therefore there wasn’t any strong smell to it. Only possibility is — Bryan is a waisek (love to eat) bb boy. But then, aren’t all babies are….
Seeing him enjoying the water so much, made me wish that I am able to take him swimming more often. I am only able to take him swimming on weekends as on workdays, it is late by the time we got home.
Even on weekends, it is dependent on many factors, our schedule, and most importantly the weather. I only take him swimming on hot days after the sun has gone down. This is to make sure that the water is warm but yet no more sun.
There has been a few occasion that the water is really cold when we went there. In fact I was shivering when I got in, but Bryan does not seem to be bothered at all. I think he really loves the water and so nothing matters as long as he can get in.
Since my dad will be officially retiring from work end of this month, perhaps I will make arrangements with him to have him send Bryan home to me once a week. I can then make arrangements to meet them at my apartment so that I can take Bryan for a quick swim before dinner.
Bryan had his first swim when he was 6 months old much against his PD’s advice. His PD discouraged me because the swimming pool is a breeding ground for bacteria.
But I really do not want Bryan to lose his natural swim instinct, so I just turned the deaf ear.
Back then, I will hold his arms and guide him around the pool. At first he will just kick his legs about and as he got more comfortable in the water, he will be splashing water with his hands.
I introduced him to floats after he turned 1 year old. At first he did not like the floats around his arms. But eventually he preferred the floats as he had more freedom with the floats compared to me holding him always.
Now, he is very comfortable in water. Yesterday when I took him swimming, he tried to float on his back, and he had so much fun doing that, we just had to capture it on video.
All we had at that time was my hubb hp, so pls pardon the poor quality. You bet we’ll bring a proper video camera the next time to capture his antics. Once I do that, I’ll load it on this blog
Yesterday is I think the first time that Bryan did not cry when we took him out of the water. Usually he will scream at the top of his lungs. Maybe it is because I let him swim for 30 minutes or more yesterday, which is much longer than usual. Or maybe it is because; we tempted him with kai-kai (shopping) and mum-mum (food). Anyway, it was a very enjoyable evening for us.
Because he was such a good boy, we rewarded him with tomato soup & grilled fish for dinner (which is what I had for dinner too). That is after he had his official dinner of cheese omelet at home. After dinner, we took him to CTY aquarium & pet shop for window shopping. It is a real fun place for him because it is a 3 storey of fishes, and other pets (birds, puppies, rabbits, hamsters, snakes, iguanas, etc.). Sorry, no photos allowed in the shop.
Bryan never, well almost never use the pacifier. We tried introducing it to him when he was an infant but he never really learn how to use/ like it. His PD also discouraged it because it may interfere with breastfeeding.
So he gets to suck his thumb instead. In fact he gets to suck his thumb AND fingers as much as he likes. Afterall, it is a baby’s natural instinct to suck, and sucking helps to comfort them. As long as he’s happy, I don’t care.
Furthermore, I think I read somewhere that the more you try to deprive him, the more he is likely to suck his thumb into childhood or even adulthood.
Now that he is older, my mom is trying to stop this habit. Furthermore, the sucking is starting to developing calluses on both his thumb. So my mom pointed to his calluses and said “Aek Aek! (dirty), No sucking.”
Somehow, Bryan listens to my mom, and he really stops sucking his thumbs and fingers when my mom is around. He doesn’t suck even when he is sleepy or during his nap/ sleep times. Sometimes he may forget, and will slowly bring his thumb to his mouth. All my mom needs to say is “Aek, aek” and he will stop immediately. Sometimes Bryan will also point to his callus and said “Aek aek”
Unfortunately, this good behaviour stops the moment i took him home and my mom is not around. Sometimes, it starts as soon as I leave my mom’s house door.
Hubb or I: Bryan, Aek aek. No sucking Bryan: (stop sucking) Aek Aek, (point to his callus)….(continue sucking)
And he will suck his thumbs and fingers in the car, when he is sleepy or trying to fall asleep. Luckily he will take his fingers out as soon as he is about to fall asleep.
I guess you can tell that this is a backdated post.
Setia Property Developer held a CNY celebration at the Setia Pearl Island Golf Club on Saturday 3 March 07. Since Bryan has never seen Lion dance before, we decide to take him there.
The event supposedly starts at 6pm but we arrived at 630pm. My mom, sis and her bf was there too, but they arrived much earlier than we did. The organizer had put up an area at the front of the golf club with “sticks†for the lions to dance on.
Meanwhile there were fire performances at one corner and the a few lions and dragons danced inside the golf club.
We were inside the golf club initially, and when the lions and dragons danced by, it was very very loud as we were in a confined environment.
I don’t think that Bryan was afraid of the dances but more of the loud drum sounds. So we decided to move outside.
Later the MC announced that the official lion dance will only start at 830pm. And meanwhile, the guests are invited to enjoy a concert just across the club.
I was very hungry liao, so we decided to leave. Our tummies are more important than a lion dance performance. But before we leave, of course I need some photos for my blog. .
My camera decided to run out of battery that day, and therefore I missed a lot of photo opportunities. The photos below were taken by my sis on her camera phone.
Got tagged by Angeleyes and later by AllThingsPurple. Though it was tagged to my personal blog, I think this is more suited here. And this is the first tag for this blog. I have lots of wishes for Bryan. Here are some of them:-
To let his daddy tuck him to bed.=> so that I have time in the evenings once in a while to do other things – watch TV, read a book, do housework, blog.
To sleep through the night => He still wakes up once in a while for comfort sucking. I am so sleep deprived!
To wean himself off breastfeeding => I will be going for a 1 week holiday in June and there may be days when it will be inconvenient for me to pump.
To be able to walk steadily soon => He is still wobbly when walking and thus we are constantly afraid that he may fall & hurt himself. Of course, even when he can walk steadily, falls can still happen.
To let my grandma hold him => my grandma has difficulty walking. So she will only hold him when she is seated. And Bryan refuse to let my grandma hold him because he doesn’t want to be seated.
And I will tag
WooiSin – You can do this when you are back on holiday la
Angie – Never seen you do tag before. Can do this for Evan? Shoppingmum – Here’s another filler post for you
Hope all your wishes for your babies come true. Happy weekend.
