Vocabulary

Some of the baby talk created by Bryan

  • Ammeno = Mickey Mouse
  • Ammennyio= Vitamin ~ don’t ask me why it has almost similar sounds as Mickey
  • Awak awak = Give me ~ My guess is it sounded similar as “Gei wou” (mandarin) or “Hor wa” (hokkien)
  • Yaget = Yogurt
  • Ah mall = Queensbay mall
  • Gng Gng = Gong Gong (grandfather) ~ he has eaten the O’s
  • Ah Pau = Bread ~ short for “mien pau” (mandarin)
  • Mamit = Marmite ~ We try not to give him Marmite because it is quite salty. But this little boy will tell my mom “Mamit tuo tuo” (More marmite) when my mom serves him his porridge.
  • Haam = Moon
  • Wawewar = Waterfall

He is quite clear in the pronunciations for these new words

  • Daddy ~ He still prefers to call me Mama although I know he can say Mami quite well.
  • Apple
  • Banana & Xiang Chiau (Mandarin)
  • Book
  • Cat & Mau (mandarin)
  • Dog
  • Loh Ti (hokkien for bread) ~ usually after he said Ah Pau, he will say “Loh Ti”
  • Chai (Vegetable in mandarin)
  • Jou (Meat in mandarin) – Sometimes he will take the food out of his mouth and tell us what it is… His ability to differentiate and identify different types of food is definitely improving.
  • Egg
  • Ah Ma (his paternal grandmother)
  • Jie Jie (elder sister)
  • Mei Mei with higher pitch (little sister)
  • Mei mei with lower pitch (beautiful)
  • Jou (let’s go)
  • Suei Chiau (sleep)
  • Eyes
  • Nose
  • Er tua (ears)

I know I am leaving out some words, but I can’t recall them now. Will add them on when I remember later.

He’s really a talkative little one, isn’t he? Soon he will be participating actively in your conversations and telling you which toys he wants!
