Hospitalized again
July 5th, 2007 by Shooi
First of all, thanks to all those who have SMS-ed and for your well-wishes. I’m sorry if I have not been able to reply your messages. Most of the time, my HP is tucked away in a drawer with low ring tone. So I may not have heard the messages come in. And Bryan always wanted to play with my HP whenever he sees it, so I minimize the time I spent talking or sending SMSes on it.
Well, the title says it all. Bryan was hospitalized again. This time for high fever (39C-40C), sore throat and a minor ear infection.
I left the house at 545am on Saturday morning for a hike to Pantai Kerachut. When I left the house, Bryan was still OK although he did have some minor fever the day before.
Then later in the morning, I received an SMS that hubb is taking Bryan to see the PD because he is having high fever. So I got my fren to drop me off at the hospital immediately after the hike to meet up with hubb. Luckily, when i got to the hosp, it wasn’t Bryan’s turn.
The PD checked Bryan and advised us to admit Bryan for his fever could get very high at night and the infections could get worse. He asked if anyone in the family had been sick recently. Answer: Hubb loh! Hubb had been sick for almost 5 days since he got back fr Vietnam. It was a case of very bad flu, which had him on MC for 3 days.
PD said that it must be some flu virus that our body is not accustomed to. Since hubb is also badly infected, what more a small boy. He said that, I was lucky that I am not infected at all. He added that normally women are stronger than men. Nature made women stronger so that we could care for the family.
Turned out that this is the worse case of flu that Bryan had ever got. His sore throat was so bad that he repeatedly bit his own fingers as he could not stand the pain and he had trouble sleeping at night. Our hearts went out to him, and I cried when i saw him doing this. Sunday night seems to be the worst night.
We started asking around if there is any supplement that we can give to him to help him recover faster and to build a stronger immune system. A few of our friends recommended Millenium, a cactus drink from E-Excel. It costs RM570 (member price: RM400+) for 2×500ml bottle, and the advice was to give him 1 ounce every hour. Hubb placed the order with his fren immediately and his fren sent it to the hospital during lunch on Monday.
Miraculously, by Monday night, Bryan seems to get better. He no longer bit his own fingers, no more crying and his fever subsided. Not sure if it was due to Millenium or that the antibiotics is working. Anyway, we were very happy to see him this way, and happier when he slept through the night. He must be feeling better.
Anyway, he just got discharged today for we need to wait for his antibiotics (3 times per day, administered via IV) course to finish. Also the PD wanted to make sure that his throat is really healed before discharging him.

aiyoh…..

Oh dear…I’m glad Bryan is on the road to recovery now. You’ll know it when you see that cheeky grin of his
But you know this does bear some truth:
“Nature made women stronger so that we could care for the family. ”
Take care yeah?
Can’t imagine what you have gone through.
We parents just became paranoid when our child is sick, trying anything to let them get well and later thinking of ways to boost thier immune system. I was so worried when Hin Lerk just recovered from diarrhea and I had flu. Thinking of all methods so that I don’t spread to him. Now I had standby multivitamins, will feed him once anyone in the family not feeling well. I don’t like long term supplementary too.
Oh, I’m so sorry that I didn’t realize Bryan was hospitalized! I got your sms when i was in S’pore. I’m so glad that he is doing better now. My apologies again.
Glad that he’s much better. give him more water.
Speedy recovery, Bryan!
