What can I do?
July 5th, 2007 by Shooi
It seems that this year Bryan got sick more often than last year. Some possible reasons:-
1. We do take him out more often. Allowing him to run all over the place, touch all sorts of things, which exposes him to more bacteria & viruses.
2. We do go out more often ourselves. Hubb and I have been to 2 vacations this year (without bb) and we are exposing ourselves to new strains of bacteria & viruses. (Such as this time in hubb & Bryan’s case).
3. Bryan is no longer exclusively breastfed this year. And since I got back from Vietnam, no longer breastfed.
Hubb remarked that perhaps if i am still bfg Bryan, he may not have caught the flu. Afterall, I did not catch it which meant I have the antibodies to fight the bacteria. If I am still bfg, Bryan will get some of my antibodies.
So for mothers who are grumbling about the difficulty in weaning *wink*, be glad that you are still giving the best to your baby.
Anyway, since I am no longer bfg, i am kinda a bit paranoid as to how I can continue to boost my baby’s immune system. If i ask the PD, he’ll just say make sure bb has balanced diet. He is not a supporter of supplements.
So I have been asking my friends what they give their kids, and one recommended Noni juice. Going to find out more about this and most probably will get for my son. Millenium is just too expensive to take for the long run.
And while Bryan is in the hospital. I took the flu vaccination as well. I rarely get sick and I want to make sure i don’t as much as possible so that I can’t pass it to Bryan. Hubb is going to get the flu jab too, since he is quite susceptible to flus. He is a bit ‘guilty’ now, that he is actually the one who suggested taking the jab, and he has a phobia for needles.
Although i know of mothers who would give their kids flu vaccinations, I have not come to the stage that I would give this to Bryan. Not unless recommended by his PD.
Dear God, please keep Bryan and all children healthy and safe always.

Although getting sick and of course eventually getting well is part and parcel of growing up, I also tend to worry and be paranoid off and on, so I know where you’re coming from.
Take heart though that Bryan is DEFINITELY way better off than those kids who were not breastfed at all.
Get well soon Bryan!
ditto what Joyce said…we already gave them a STRONG foundation and good start for our child…
Amen to your prayer. Keep all children healthy and safe always. Get well soon, Byran.
I too will get very worried when my son falls sick, eventho it’s just for the slightlest temp increase. But my paed always assure me, it is part and parcel of building a stronger immune system. So, dont worry ya.
hey 1yo can start giving scott’s emulsion fish oil…i find that really good. go try it
I never like my kids getting sick … especially darien .. he’ll be extremely whinny. like jazz i give my kids scotts, i give them multivits, vit c and elken spirulina. really good .. they seldom fall sick.
every mummy sure will very worry when their kid got sick even though slightly fever, who doesn’t??? my son got slightly flu few days ago and haven’t recover till now….didn’t take him to paed or any medicine, just keep closer to him..dun worry, bryan will alright….
I normally give Seven Sea’s mulitvits (with fish oil) ..it comes in liquid form..to my monkeys..
It’s ok. It’s normal. They have to build immunity against such illnesses…and the only way sometimes is to fall sick!
Take care ok?
scott emulsion, chewies, fruits, but then i have asked PD and she said all the needed nutrients are in the milk given to them. So dun blame yrslf for not breastfeeding him ya.
yeah, it seemed Darrius is like that too, very prone to fall sick after I stopped bfg him…
Hope Bryan gets well soon…
