Part 4: Dinner & presents
November 2nd, 2007 by Shooi
Just like what we did last year, on Bryan’s actual birthday, we went for a simple dinner with my parents and sister. This is also a small token of appreciation for the love and care my parents shower on Bryan. I don’t know how I would manage without my parents. They were always there to help me no matter when Bryan is happy, sad, healthy or sick.
My parents absolutely adores Bryan and will do anything for him. For eg, he goes to one of the most popular PD in Penang. Even with appointment, it is on a first come first serve basis. The average waiting from the time we drop off the registration card to his turn to see the PD is 3-4 hours. So we normally make 2 trips to the PD. First trip just to drop off the card, and when it is about Bryan’s turn, make another trip to see the PD. My father would sometimes help to make both trips if hubb and I happen to be very busy at work. And my parents lived 30 mins away from the PD…so a return trip takes 1 hour.
Since it is so mah-fan to see the PD, why do we still go to him? Err…because we trust him. His diagnosis of Bryan had been very accurate so far. Whenever Bryan is ill, his PD is able to make very accurate “predictions” of how the situation will turn into, in the next few hours, days, etc before Bryan is on his path to recovery. If he tells us Bryan will take 1 week to recover, it will take 1 week. If he says 2 days… in 2 days time, Bryan will be well again. I guess his knowledge comes due to experience. Maybe that’s why even though he has such a long waiting time, so many people still want to see him.
Since his actual birthday falls on a Friday, we avoided a venue in town to avoid the traffic jam. Somehow, traffic to town on Friday evenings are usually very bad. So we went to Cherry Blossom Thai Restaurant at Sg Ara. We went there straight away after work. My parents took Bryan there to meet us.

And what’s a birthday celebration without a birthday cake? You’re right! I ordered another birthday cake for Bryan. This time it is fruit flan cheese cake. Since the crowd is smaller this time, Bryan was very happy when we sang the birthday song and in fact sang along with us. My mom has been teaching him how to sing the birthday song lately and he had been a fast learner. *smile proudly*

After the song, again he refused to blow the candle. But then I told him that he would be allowed to cut the cake if he blows the candle. He blew the candle right away.

So we gave him the plastic knife and allowed him to cut the cake without any assistance. He stabbed the cake instead of cutting the cake .. LOL! I had to rescue the cake in the end or there wouldn’t be any decent slices of cake left!

He enjoyed the cake tremendously! This time…no choking *wink*

When we got home, we let him open the presents, some newly received since his birthday party.

Here are some of the presents that Bryan had received for his 2nd birthday.

A lot of my relatives are very practical…they gave their presents in the token of angpow.
Cheers to another great year and many more great and healthy years to come!
