Artists in the making

Ever since we got the bubbles & pool session, a few of us mommies have been brainstorming on what to do for the next playgroup session - something simple to organize and one that the kids will enjoy (hopefully). So painting it is!

Since this is the first time that most of them will be trying painting, we want to make sure that the paint is safe in case they accidentally (or intentionally) ate them. Well, most of them are already past the stage of putting things in their mouth,…but we’ll never know.

So I made a batch of edible paint using food coloring - Blue & Red.

The paint is very easy to make. Just stir some flour in water and then simmer it to the consistency that you want. Add more flour / water as needed. Just make sure that u mix the flour in cold water before mixing it into the boiling mixture. You don’t want it too thick (like glue) and not too watery also. If too watery, it will not hold a lot of color and will be hard to paint. Separate the flour mixture into different containers and drop the food colorings into each. Don’t make too much because the paint will turn bad after 2 days or so….It is best to make them on the day or just 1 day ahead.

Coincidentally, Tesco was selling paint aprons, so we bought those for our kids as well as some brush and pallet. Now we are all set to go!

Each kid have their own piece of mahjong paper and pallet to play with. But Ethan thinks it is more fun to share Bryan’s pallet and paper.

But soon, Ethan lost interest and prefer to play with Simba the dog instead.

Bryan meanwhile seems to enjoy the painting activity. His piece of paper was the first to be filled with colors and soon, i moved him to another piece.

In fact, he got interested in painting and was painting the paper so hard, he tore the paper up with his painting.

Hmm..looks like mommy need to get you proper drawing paper next time… :-D
