Bryan: Playschool update
May 20th, 2008 by Shooi
Bryan was doing great at the half day program. But when I had to return to work early this month, we switched him to full day.
And just as Audrey had expected, he will protest at the long hours. He began to reject school again. He would whine and ask for mommy constantly. He wouldn’t really be crying but would be whining off and on.
What does he whine about at school…
“Mommy mommy, wo yau mommy” (I want mommy)
“Teacher teacher, chiau mommy lai” (Teacher ask mommy to come)
“Teacher, teacher, ta tien hua kei mommy” (Teacher, telephone mummy)
And how do I know? Because Bryan tells me when he comes home. He will play pretend and show me his sad face and whine when I asked him what did he tell teacher.
It breaks my heart to see him. But what to do? I can’t take care of him full time at home and unfortunately neither can my parents. He is too active and noisy at home, so Dylan could hardly sleep for long hours when he is around. Bryan loves being around Dylan now and would constantly cuddle him whenever he sees him. So sometimes as Dylan is falling asleep in our arms, Bryan would wake him up again.
On the other hand, he is learning so much at school.
- His coloring skills has improved and he is able to color at the area where the graphic is instead of all over the entire page.
- He is speaking more English to me when previously he absolutely refused to speak. He answers me in simple “Yes, No, Don’t want” when I asked him in English.Last weekend, at his grandma’s place, he told me in full sentence, “I want to go home”
Today, after a long weekend break. He again refuses to go to school. He doesn’t want to wear his school T-shirt so we just let him wear his own shirt.
Hubb sent him to school this morning, and he was whining and crying as he went up the stairs to his school.
But as he was climbing the stairs, he said,
“Pu yau ku” (Don’t cry) and he wiped his tears dry.
Then he stopped crying as he enters the school door.
He is really growing up and I am missing him so much!

Hi Shooi, I understand your feeling, which you are torn between two. I felt the same when Sean whined at the gate every morning when I left for work, it breaks the heart but “no choice” Life goes on… and I am sure this bring our quality time tighter and brighter…. Don’t worry… I am sure this will past very fast! “Jia You”
Belle is just like Bryan..always like to kacau the sister till she couldn’t sleep. I wonder how our grandmas managed it esp with so many kids.
Good to know that he is almost there.
