Dylan’s first solid

Saturday morning, 2 days short from his 6th month birthday.

Bryan was taking his nap. Dylan is alert and happy. His next bf is not due until about an hour later. The timing is just perfect for his first solid.

While I am getting his meal ready in the kitchen, a little smiles for the camera…

And then – the moment of truth!

Blearrggghhh! He hated it! He had a few tastes then he started to turn away. I tried to carry him in my arms later and tried feeding him – he didn’t like it also.

I had given him Heinz Rice cereal mixed with EBM. It must have tasted too bland for him.

I will try giving him thick moi-am (rice soup?) next and see how it goes. Homemade rice cereals will always beat the commercial ones.

Bryan was luckier last time. His first taste of solid were homemade rice cereals. I had bought organic white rice, washed and oven dried it. Then grind it to powdery texture. To prepare his meal, I add a small tsp of homemade rice powder with water…steamed till cook, then add EBM and serve when cooled.

Dear Dylan. So sorry that mommy diden have time to make homemade cereals for you.We try some other food this weekend, ok. Hope you will find them better.

Dylan on a bicycle

I have been eyeing this for a looong time. Ge-ge loves to cruise round and round the house in it when he comes back from school.

I asked kor-kor to let me play as well, but ge-ge don’t let. Well, actually he let la, but he demanded that he must sit on it as well. He said, “ee chi chuo” (sit together)

Maybe he is scared that i will fall off, so he wants to protect & take care of me. But the seat is so small nia, how to seat 2 cute kiddos.

So finally, when ge-ge is at school, kong-kong let me sit, and help me to cruise around the house!

Mom, you need to get a bigger bike for ge-ge soon. I want this one. :D

Barney for Bryan

We don’t subscribe to the Astro cartoon channels. So Bryan doesn’t know most of the kiddie characters that most kids are familiar with, eg Thomas, Pingu, Pocoyo, etc.

He only knows the character of the DVDs he owns. No prize for guessing it right, he knows Barney very well.

Just a day after he got a pressie on daddy’s birthday, he got more gifts.

I had ordered some books via his school and one of them is the Barney board book.

He was ecstatic to receive the book. ANd coincidentally, he was wearing a Barney T-shirt that day. He clung to the book all evening that day, demanded that i read the book over and over again that night. And the next morning, and the next night….

It was such a worthy investment! And the book only cost 1/6 of the price of the wooden toy that we got him the day before.

And how long did he spent playing on that wooden toy? 10 minutes!

Haizzz…

Happy birthday daddy

Bryan sings,

“Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to DADDEEEEE
Happy Birthday to you”

*Yeah, finally get to blow candle & cut cake*

Sommo, got pressie* from Daddy….

Bryan, aren’t you a lucky boy!

*We are getting more generous when it comes to getting new toys for Bryan nowadays. We figured that whatever we get for Bryan now, can be passed on to Dylan. So better get more toys for Bryan now so that both of them get to enjoy them eventually.

Jasmine’s 2nd birthday party

Bryan loves parties. There are lots of food. Lots of toys. But most importantly, there is a birthday cake.

He loves singing birthday songs and loves cutting the cake. He always says that he wants to cut the cake. But of coz unless it is his or ours, he doesn’t get to cut the cake.

So not surprisingly, he was looking forward to his cousin Jasmine’s birthday last Sunday.

I love this pic cause it gives the impression that both of them are very kuai-kuai one. Are they? Of coz not ..hehehe

Both of them used to fight a lot…well, actually Bryan is the bully and poor Jas was always at the losing end. But the 2 of them are very buddy now. So when both of them are together, we parents can relax as they will play by themselves. That’s also one of the reasons why I decided to have #2. Only child is just too lonely.

We tried to let Dylan participate in their play as well, but he is still a little small to participate. He loves being around his chieh-chieh and ker-ker though.

Bryan also tried to steal the limelight fr Jas on that day by singing a few songs on Jas’s new birthday gift – an electronic piano with an accompanying mic.

Luckily Jas very gracious and was contented to play the part of the piano player.

I also managed to catch some nice shots of Dylan and my husb with the boys

I love this photo as well as the 3 of them got that samseng “yau yeng” look…

Why no photos of me (AGAIN)? Coz when husb was holding the camera, all he focused on was photos of his kids. He diden care if my face looked senget keh or what. He just snapped the photos. So his kids looked cute but me leh?

Bryan: General updates @ 33 months.

Toilet training – the next level
Now when he wants to pee, he will

Remove his own shorts & underwear.
Open toilet door. Take his Ikea stool and place it next to the toilet bowl.
Stand on it…pee.
Get off the stool. Move the stool to the bathroom sink.
Stand on it, open tap, wash his hands.

Then, mommy or someone else will have to ask him to come out because he can wash hands forever. – play water mah.

He can also put on his own shorts but usually will prefer not to as he know someone will help him put it on cause we won’t let him run around the house butt naked. Lazy boy!

Reading skills
With Bryan, I seldom get to read from cover to cover. He will flip to the page he likes and asked me to read the words there.

I point to the words with my finger as I read, and will stop randomly at words to ask him to read.

Since last weekend, I have also started to use flash cards with him and am very surprised that he picks up the new words very fast. Not just English words but Chinese words as well. Not listing the words here as there are too many to list :D

Understanding skills
We wanted to take him to the beach to play on Sunday morning. But when we reached there, the tide was very high and the sea was quite rough. We stopped our car close to the sea.

Me: Bryan, look. The sea water is so high. There is no more beach.
Bryan: No more beach
Me: Water so high, cannot play already. We’ll come some other time. We go home now.
Bryan: OK.
He paused for a while as he surveyed the sea condition. Then he said, “Find a new beach.”

Less terrible 2?
He is getting more manageable right now (*at least for me). Temper tantrums are still there but it is getting less.

For eg: He loves playing with water and it used to be quite difficult getting him out of the toilet – washing hand/ bath.

Now during bath time, he still gets to play water. But once he is done, he will tell me that he’s ready. I no longer need to drag/ tempt (with candies) him out. He will also stop washing his hands when I tell him that they are clean now.

Unfortunately, I am still about the only person who can get him to stop when it is time. With the others….they will still get the occasional temper tantrums.

Discipline
Discipline is still a challenge, at school and at home. At home I am the disciplinarian. He does not seem to fear anyone else. The only way to get him to stop doing something naughty is by threatening to tell me. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But if I am there and I scold him, it will usually work.

He is scared of me getting angry because I am the most important person to him (at least for now). He is scared that I won’t “sayang” him.

*Psstt…don’t tell him, but no matter how notti he is, I will still sayang him*

Sleeping time
It is getting more regular now. Less troublesome to get him to sleep. Usually we will adjourn to the bedroom around 9-ish. We will talk, play, read some books, then lights off at about 10. He may occasional ask for another story which I will have to recite from memory / create. When he is satisfy he will roll roll roll to a comfy position and Zzzzz. I no longer need to pat or sing him songs till he Zzzzz. And another good thing is, he has stopped waking up in the middle of the night to wee. He can last till the next morning now. But he will still wake up occasionally,…dreaming la, nightmare la,..too much fun at school la… He talks in his sleep too.

Dylan’s 5th month accomplishments

Weight: 6.7 kg – 500gm increase since last month.

What’s new in the last one month:-

  • An accomplished flipper – flip left, flip right, flip flip flip until roll off the bed. Haha..don worry. No injuries. One time he flipped off the mattress to a pillow on the floor. Rest of the time. I caught him just before he flipped off the edge. No lah, I wasn’t being careless. I was trying to catch his flipping action on my camcorder.
  • Caterpillar crawl – When he is not flipping. He is doing the caterpillar crawl. Stick his bum high-high and push himself forward. Sometimes, he will crawl himself into the corner of his cot, get stuck, then cry for help.
  • Look at me! Calls for attention now. Not cry for attention. But really calling out to us to play with him or carry him
  • Started to show interest in eating. We have to be careful when we are eating near to him. He will grab our food if it is within his reach. Salivates and shows swallowing action when he saw us eating. His eyes will follow the direction of food from our plate to our mouth. Dear dear, wait ah, one more month then you can start solid liao.
  • Sleeping through the night. Gets his last feeding around 10pm and next feeding around 5 or 6 am. Then continue to Zzzz till about 10am.

How you have grown….
